Hub International’s Bellingham office opened in 1929 under the ownership of Earl Griffin. Since then it has offered Bellingham local insurance solutions. In the 1970s, Griffin’s firm merged with two other agencies to form Griffin, Garrett, Johanson and Schacht. Over the years, GGJ&S flourished and continued to acquire many other firms. In 1987, with the acquisition of the Ireland and Bellingar Agency, the name of the agency was once again changed to The Unity Group. Even though the name had changed, The Unity group continued to maintain its predecessors’ reputation for professionalism, courtesy and outstanding service while expanding its product line and market area.
In August of 2013, The Unity Group was then purchased by HUB International, a top five leading global insurance brokerage that provides a broad array of products and services, including property and casualty, life and health, employee benefits, investment and risk-management. The acquisition of The Unity Group by HUB created an opportunity to offer our clients the resources of a globally-recognized firm while retaining local management, long-term relationships and the superior service our clients they have come to know and trust.
